After
many years of working in call centre and office environments, Cleanitservices
was formed to tackle the risk of computer operators getting sick through using
I.T equipment.
In many offices, I was always dismayed over the lack of a
proper computer cleaning regime, there only seemed to
be a cursory wipe round of our computers with no actual treatment of the
keyboard, monitor etc. After asking many of my colleagues and liaising with the
staff association it was becoming clear that not only did it concern me, but
that it was an important issue for all staff, and being brought up in many
meetings with senior management.
I
trawled many sources, the internet, tv, newspapers, books etc. it seemed that
there were many surveys carried out by respectable sources such as the BBC, The
Mirror Newspaper, AOL, IBM, The Washington Tribune and many others testifying to
the dangers that lurked in and on our computers and the need for a proper computer cleaning regime. The BBC shockingly declared that
computers can contain "up to 400 more bacteria than your average office toilet"
another reported links with fungal spores, asthma, others reported hair,
fingernail pairings, dead insects, food, colds & flu organisms, skin cells
in there millions, and most worryingly fecal organisms. It was becoming pretty
clear that the humble computer was hosting a sickness inducing array of
bacteria, viruses and germs which quite honestly could not be controlled by a
casual dust or an odd antiseptic wipe. It was at this time that I decided to
start a computer cleaning company that specializes in the removal and
sanitization of all I.T equipment. The office bug was preventable and with the
right computer cleaning routine and computer cleaning products the risks for computer
operators could be practically eradicated.
Current
Health & Safety Regulations state that "every employer shall ensure that
work equipment is maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order
and in good repair".
In addition, Regulation 5(1) of the Workplace (Health,
Safety & Welfare) Regulations 1992 requires "the workplace and the
equipment, devices and systems to which this regulation applies shall be
maintained (including cleaned as appropriate) in an efficient state, in
efficient working order and in good repair".
It is understood that the word
maintenance includes computer cleaning and not just
general servicing etc.
